Police responded to a crash on the city's east side at 9:45 p.m. The driver of one of the vehicles had fled. Two officers went to that driver's house and reportedly heard gunshots from inside. Police fired tear gas into the house at 6 a.m. after negotiators' attempts to contact the man failed. Officers entered the home more than three hours later, and found the man dead of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.
