McMillan rode in the back seat of the car of his friend, a corrections officer, in the early morning hours when his friend asked him to hand him his .25 caliber pistol. McMillan, according to the police narrative, accidentally fatally wounded himself in the temple. Family strongly disputed the official version of events and alleged a cover up.
