Arizona Department of Public Safety Officer Christopher Valdez who ran a red light and killed a motorist during a police pursuit nearly three months ago has been indicted on manslaughter charges. Valdez showed "gross deviation" when he disobeyed a direct order from his supervisor to break off the pursuit on Sept. 24 and continued chasing a stolen other for about four miles through the streets of Mesa, Maricopa County Attorney Rick Romley said. Photo radar showed Valdez was traveling 22 mph above the posted speed limit when he ran the light at an intersection and broadsided a car driven by Edward Shelley, a 25-year-old Arizona State University student.
This record exists so that Evan Edward Shelley, and all who are named in this archive, are never reduced to a number.
