Two high school students in a stolen SUV brought on a police chase through a residential neighborhood. Out of control, closely pursued with lights and siren, the other jumped the curb into the path of three pedestrians: Johnnie Hickman, Hickman's friend Douglas Akins, and Akins' three-year-old grandson. Akins last act was to throw the boy to safety. Both men died. The driver received five years in prison.
