A sheriff saw a suspect finish off an alcoholic beverage in a convenience store parking lot. After a chase reaching 110 MPH and venturing across state lines from Avery County NC into Tennessee, the suspect's car struck Bowers' other. The crash sent Bowers into the rock bank along the highway and killed her.
