A man fleeing Venice police crashed his Oldsmobile Cutlass into a GMC Suburban, killing Charles C. Haynes, a passenger in the SUV, and injuring two other people. The crash occurred just after 1 a.m. at the intersection of Oriole and Brown streets. Haynes was thrown from the Suburban and pinned against the concrete porch of a house on the corner. Haynes died at the scene.
