Jimmy B. Hornbuckle was killed when he rear-ended an 18-wheeler on Interstate 55 as state and municipal police pursued him. The pursuit started shortly after midnight when a Festus officer tried to stop Hornbuckle for driving with improper license plates on his 1985 Pontiac Fiero. Police said they believed Hornbuckle may have intended to kill himself when he crashed into the back of the truck.
