As the prime suspect in the kidnapping of a 14-year-old girl, Hescock led police on a 40-mile other chase that ended on a dead-end dirt road in the Big Hole Mountains. A heavily armed and dangerous Hescock shot it out with the deputy, leaving the deputy wounded, a police dog killed, and Hescock shot to death.
