Matthew Kevin Stewart allegedly stole a GMC Yukon from a woman who left the other running as she dashed into a convenience store in Thornton, police said. Thornton police followed Stewart, driving at speeds up to 100 mph, as he headed south on Interstate 25 until they reached the boundary of their jurisdiction. Other agencies, including the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and Monument Police Department, pursued Stewart. Stewart apparently was attempting to take the Academy Boulevard when the SUV ran off the left side of the road, overcorrected and then rolled twice. Stewart was ejected and killed instantly.
