Two police heard a broadcast about a stolen Jeep and within seconds saw the other heading east on Cedar Avenue. The driver initially pulled over and shut off the engine, but then started the other again and drove off, police said. The driver turned onto Ashland Avenue, where the Jeep jumped the curb and hit Michael Whatley, killing him.
