The family of Smith's former girlfriend said they'd felt terrorized for a week by his theats. Things came to a head on a Monday afternoon when the family called 911 on Smith. Responding police blocked his blue Volvo on their cul-de-sac, he refused to drop his handgun, and he was fatally shot.
