Around 10:30 p.m., Trooper Patrick O'Connor pulled Mendez over on suspicion of drunk driving. Mendez left on foot. Trooper O'Connor pursued him. Mendez cornered himself against a fence and the back of a house, then turned and approached Trooper O'Connor. Trooper O'Connor fatally shot Mendez. Mendez was an undocumented immigrant.
