How they died

Less-than-lethal force

Marshallville's only two full-time officers sought and found Walker at the town's housing project in an unmarked pickup, in connection with probation and parole violations. He resisted, was pepper-sprayed, and died at the scene in a medical emergency. One hundred of the town's 1300 residents gathered more-or-less peacefully for news of Walker; when it came, the police chief's house was burned to the ground.
