Deputies chasing a shoplifting suspect in a Ford Explorer were sued for their failure to follow their own department's chase policies. The Explorer ran a red light and sped into a major intersection, striking a Cirrus driven by Lonnie D. Turner and his mother-in-law Margaret Patricia Branton, killing them both. Turner's pregnant wife and their six-year-old survived the crash, but their unborn child did not.
