Off-duty Colonial Heights police Lt. James H. "Jamie" Sears was killed when Chesterfield patrolman Haywood E. James III, pursuing Douglas Michael Brown Jr., 37, lost control of his police cruiser and slammed head-on into Sears' car. Brown got 30 years for involuntary manslaughter.
