Simmons was brought in for speeding, evading police with his lights off, and eventually crashing his own car in a high speed police chase. There was an attempt to tasered him, reportedly unsuccessful, but he was tackled and beaten with a baton. During the booking process he collapsed, was taken to the hospital with a high heart rate and died there.
