Distance runner and warehouse worker Case ingested a large amount of hallucinogenic drugs and wandered out of his apartment, into the neighboring apartment of a young woman with an 8-year-old. The woman called 911. Police arrived, shot Case with pepper spray then bean-bag rounds from a shotgun, which didn't stop him. He was fatally shot.
