One of two pedestrians struck by a drunk-driving local officer, Briggs died of her injuries two weeks later. The other woman was also seriously hurt. The officer resigned his post, was sentenced to six months in jail, five years probation, and directed to give a drunk driving presentation to every high school in the county.
