Tiffany Graves, Ieisha Hayes and Torrance Stapleton died when their car hit a semitrailer parked along an exit ramp while fleeing from police. Police said they'd received a tip that someone in the 2004 Nissan Maxima Stapleton was driving was linked to an October robbery. At around 1 a.m., officers stopped the car at Worley Street and Woodlawn Avenue, but the Nissan sped away with police in pursuit. Stapleton entered westbound I-70 at Stadium Boulevard and police said the officers "totally lost sight" of the Nissan about two miles from the Rocheport exit until they came upon the wreckage. The Nissan struck the left rear corner of the semitrailer, splitting in half. The driver of the tractor-trailer, who was not injured, said that when he got a closer look, "I knew there was no hope for them."
