At Rest

Less-than-lethal force
Officers restrained Lopez, who was mentally ill, in connection to an argument with his wife. They did not handcuff him. Lopez poured gasoline on himself and tried to light himself on fire with a lighter. An officer shot him with a stun gun. He burst into flames and died. It is unclear whether the stun gun or the lighter caused the flames. The Texas Ranger Division investigated. Lopez is listed in the Texas Custodial Deaths report as of Jan. 23, 2016.
