Less-than-lethal force
Officers approached Backlund after a minor one-car collision in the center median. Backlund was argumentative and uncooperative, to the point of punching one of the five responding state troopers, and evidently tried to leave the scene. Officers tasered him three times. He collapsed and was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
