According to a complaint, a woman was chasing someone with a knife. By the time officers responded, a man had subdued Cruz and a woman was taking a knife from her. Officers arrested Cruz and put her in a patrol car. Seven minutes later, Officer Drew Bryan noticed that she had passed out. Officer Bryan, Officer Jeremy Eder and others tried and failed to resuscitate Cruz. The Texas Ranger Division investigated.
