Turner, accused of a variety of small crimes, was fatally Tasered for 40 consecutive seconds by local police after being apprehended at a Food Lion where he worked. The legal aftermath includes the officer involved being suspended for five days. In 2009 the city paid the family $625K. A $6M award to the family against Taser Intl was appealed to the Fourth Circuit, struck down, but was to be re-litigated.
