Off-duty officer Mark A. Jaramillo was killed after a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by his best friend, off-duty officer Kyle L. Kovac, 31, spun out of control and flipped near an exit ramp. Jaramillo was ejected from the SUV and died at the scene of the 1 a.m. crash. A distraught Kovac then reportedly went to his home nearby and committed suicide. Other officers went to Kovac's home because they were concerned for his well being. After forcing their way inside, the officers discovered Kovac's body.
