Velasquez was killed when a county officer in pursuit of a suspect, travelling at a high rate of speed without lights or siren, blew through a stop sign and collided with her car. The impact threw her car through the exterior wall of a nearby house. The Florida legislature put through a special bill to fund the $1M settlement to her family.
