The other tag on the 2006 Chevrolet Colorado pickup was confirmed as stolen, and a traffic stop was attempted. Reed allegedly did a u-turn and headed toward the pursuing deputy. The deputy drove off the road. Another deputy spotted the other. Reed lost control and crashed into a tree, killing Reed.
