Brought out on a domestic disturbance 911 call, police found Roos trying to slice open his own neck with a cleaver and his wife struggling to stop him. The officer stepped up and ordered Roos to drop the cleaver. When he didn't, he was shot. Roos died from some combination of the gunshot and the self-inflicted knife wounds.
