Marcayla Ackerson was killed when the car she was in crashed during a police chase. According to police, they tried to stop a car driven by Boyd Damet, 26, for a lane violation at 20th and Maiden Lane, but Damet fled. Police chased Damet until he ran a stop sign and collided with a pickup truck. Ackerson, a passenger in Damet's car, died of her injuries. In April 2010, Damet pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and was sentenced to five years in prison.
