Responders found Cartmell already dead on the couch, with a bullet wound in her head, in the house she shared with her active-duty Nashville police department husband. His story of her supposed accidental suicide fell apart very quickly. Prosecuted for second-degree murder he was convicted and sentenced to 18 years in prison. He appealed and lost.
