Barga reacted progressively badly to a mushroom trip, destroying furniture, stripping off his clothes and urinating on the carpet. At about 2:30 a.m. he ventured out into a neighbor's back yard and shattered a glass table, etc. Responding officers pepper-sprayed him, tasered him, tried restraining holds, all to no avail. Barga developed breathing problems and died shortly after.
