Dobbins failed to appear in court, and was remanded to jail. A deputy escorted him to jail. He attacked the deputy and fled. Dobbins was subdued and taken to the jail, directly behind the courthouse. During booking, he stabbed himself fatally in the chest. Texas Ranger Danny Crawford investigated.
