Arellana-Vargas was a Mexican national working on a bootleg marijuana operation in the deep woods on Bureau of Land Management territory. During an early-morning county SWAT drug raid, Arellana-Vargas fled uphill to retrieve a loaded shotgun, and was fatally shot.
