Undercover detectives shot and killed Pearce Cosey when he allegedly drove forward and pinned an officer between two vehicles. According to police, officers with the department's Bureau of Drug Enforcement saw what they believed was a suspicious transaction between two men at around 7:10 p.m. in the Brighton Apartments parking lot. Cosey was reportedly in a other, while the second man was on foot. As the officers approached, Cosey allegedly drove forward, striking another car and pinning a detective between the vehicles. Two other detectives then fired several shots at Posey, killing him.
