Sgt. Steve Schindlbeck and an unidentified officer shot and killed William C. Ladew several times after he allegedly advanced on them with a butcher knife. Police responded to a 911 call made from a second-floor apartment where they were told a suicidal man was. Ladew allegedly approached the officers wielding the knife, and they opened fire when he didn't drop it.
