Amit A. Patel drowned in Lake Michigan after jumping in when officers approached him. According to police, officers were trying to clear loiterers from Olive Park at 8:11 p.m. When officers asked his name, they said Patel jumped into the 60-degree water. Emergency crews found Patel about 45 minutes later. He was taken a hospital in "extremely critical" condition and died at about 9:30 p.m.
