An officer tried to stop Escobar because he was driving slow and straddling lane lines, leading the officer to believe he might be driving drunk. Escobar ran, and officers chased. Escobar's tires were flattened after he ran over several curbs, and his pickup was shooting sparks and flames from the wheels as it approached Will Rogers World Airport. Escobar hit a curb on the north side of SW 54 and rolled the other before they arrived. Escobar was pronounced dead at the scene.
