Deadly force

The incident began around 3:50 p.m. as Officer Steven Green transported Lawrence to the Mobile County Metro Jail for booking on a robbery charge. Lawrence stabbed Green, then fled in the officer's patrol car. A second officer, Mark Johnson, gave chase and was shot in the arm during the pursuit. A standoff ensured in the residential area street and Lawrence exchanged gunfire with the two officers before being fatally shot by Green. In Oct. 2013, a Mobile Co Grand Jury ruled the shooting was justified and cleared Green of any wrongdoing.
