Deadly force

The family of Cabrales settled for $1.5 million because it was alleged that the deputies involved shot him when he was at his home, running away, and unarmed. The deputies were alleged to be a part of a clique called The Regulators. Also, some of the officials involved were later fired for planting evidence at unrelated crime scene, and for trying to change the scene where they shot Cabrales by claiming that he had a gun that he didn't.
