Ekasala and two accomplices fled an armed bank robbery in a stolen car, and carjacked another other in an apartment parking lot before discovering it was a manual transmission, which they couldn't drive. Ekasala fired on pursuing police and the police killed him, with 15 to 20 rounds in the exchange of fire.
