During a police pursuit, Howard crashed his car, then fled on foot. Officers caught up with him and restrained him, likely causing broken ribs, a punctured lung, and a broken arm. He was admitted to the hospital June 19, where he died of pneumonia brought on by his injuries June 23, 2012.
