Deputy Z. Gonzalves and approved rider Randy Pitman went to assess the residence of William Mathis, a registered sex offender. Deputy Gonzalves arrested Mathis because two 15-year-old girls were at his residence. Mathis had a heart attack on the way to Chambers County Jail. Deputy Gonzalves tried and failed to revive him.
