An officer from Green Oak Township police and a MI state police trooper responded to a call about a possible break in. They saw Hassell flee in his other and gave chase, catching up with him at his residence. The officers followed him into his house where he allegedly shot at them. The three exchanged gunfire, and Hassell died at the scene.
