Modesto Police officers responded to a domestic disturbance call that an armed man had his wife hostage in their home. When SWAT officers went into the home after an 11 hour standoff to help the wife, Howard Tungseth allegedly pointed his handgun at them. He was shot by Sgt. Rigo DeAlba and and Det. Gary Guffey of the Modesto Police Department. Tungseth reportedly fought in WWII.
