Suicide
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office received information that Anthony Payne was possibly headed to the 700 block of Swan Lane in Canton. Police said deputies made contact with him just before 1:30 a.m. He displayed a weapon and refused to comply with a deputy's command to drop it. Both the deputy and the suspect fired their weapons. Payne was shot and died at the scene. It was later ruled a suicide by the medical examiner.
