An armed robbery was in progress when a state trooper arrived at the gun shop, and he exchanged gunfire with the robbery suspect identified as James D. Jones, 60. The trooper was hit multiple times, and survived, Jones died at the scene. Jones suffered from Alzheimer's disease which may have affected his behavior.
