An off-duty local officer fatally shot his long-time friend Shawn Evans during an early-morning dispute in a neighborhood tavern. The tavern was owned by the officer's wife and her family. Police investigated the incident as an officer-involved shooting, although the officer was on disability. He was charged with homicide and later acquitted by a jury. Reportedly during the struggle Evans reached for the off-duty officer's gun and the off-duty officer shot and killed Evans.
