Deadly force

Local police responding to a burglary call flushed out Salazar, who led them on a high-speed chase. After his other came to a stop on the side of the interstate Salazar continued to flee on foot. Officers set a police dog on him, which he stabbed, causing officers to fatally shoot him in the back. Physical evidence from Salazar's autopsy contradicted the police story. Much of the press focused on the suffering and death of the heroic dog.
