Deadly force
McDonald was shot and killed after being suspected of breaking into cars. McDonald also slashed an officers tire with a knife. He then led officers on a short foot chase and refused to drop the knife, prompting Officer Jason Van Dyke to shoot him 16 times, killing him. Van Dyke later convicted for 2nd degree murder.
