Troopers tried to stop Raymond Melvin Meloche Jr.'s 2012 Yamaha motorcycle for a traffic violation at approximately 11:52 p.m. in Norton Shores. Meloche reportedly fled and troopers pursued him into Ottawa County, where he failed to negotiate a curve on a rough patch of road and hit a curb. Meloche was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene. In September 2015, Ottawa County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Greg Babbitt said his office had decided Meloche was "the cause of his own death".
