DuBose was killed by a single shot to the head during a traffic stop by Officer Raymond Tensing. With a long criminal record of relatively minor offenses, DuBose had no valid license and had alcohol in his other, but was unarmed and compliant. The county prosecutor initially refused to release the body cam video. When it was released the officer was indicted for murder in late July, unusual and unusually rapid. The announcement came with a closure of the UC campus and an insertion of state troopers to quell unrest.
